Visit of the Mayor of Doullens to Woodbridge 24 - 26 Oct 2025 In January 2024 a Woodbridge Twinning Group was formed to restore the town's dormant twinning arrangements with France. An initial public call out from the Town Council brought 15 residents together, who started work on reviving old links and finding a new twin. Two "International Picnic" events expanded the wider group to some 50 plus interested local people. Restoration starts After successful fundraiser The Tide Mill restoration fundraiser launched in March this year has reached its target of £60,000. Work has already started, with scaffolding up for safe access to the Grade 1 listed building. The distinctive shiplap exterior is being prepared before weatherproof paint is applied. The renovation is planned to take about 3 weeks during which time the Mill will be open 11am – 5pm daily. The Mill’s riverside boardwalk will be closed but otherwise the Mill will remain fully open. Stone Dressing Preparation Turning a 1 ton millstone The Engineering Team met on Monday 21 July to remove and flip one of the Woodbridge Tide Mill millstones in advance of a professional cleaning the following Wednesday. Blue plaque for Jean Gardner The Mill's saviour gets permanent recognition on the Mill On Thursday 29 May The Woodbridge and Melton Society and the Woodbridge Tide Mill Charitable Trust unveiled a Blue Plaque on Woodbridge Tide Mill honouring Mrs Jean Gardner. Mrs Gardner bought the near derelict Mill in 1968 for £7,300 and encouraged its restoration. In 1977 she gave it to the Town for the enjoyment of the people of Woodbridge.
