Please help save this much loved symbol of Suffolk
There’s been a Tide Mill on the River Deben in Woodbridge for over 850 years. Today the Mill provides a heritage experience that entertains, educates and inspires visitors by still using the renewable energy of the tides to drive its millstones and produce stoneground wholemeal flour … you may have used our flour or eaten a cake or sandwich made with it!
As an old wooden building on the riverfront, salty water, rain, wind and the sun have taken their toll. Woodbridge Tide Mill urgently needs to be restored and repainted by expert craftsmen. Restoring an historic, Grade 1 listed, landmark like the Tide Mill is not cheap. The wooden shiplap exterior requires specialist preparation, rubbing down in parts, decay and rot need removing and coats of weatherproof paint need applying. Safe access to such a precious building, with one aspect in the river, requires sensitively applied scaffolding.
We need to raise £60,000 by September to make this restoration happen.
