Tides are caused by the gravitational pull of the Moon and the Sun. Solstices and Equinoxes define the four seasons: solstices mark the longest and shortest days, while equinoxes mark periods when day and night are roughly equal and tidal ranges are significantly magnified or reduced.

As the Tide Mill relies on tides, Solstice and Equinox are good times to celebrate these astronomical events without which the Tide Mill would not exist.

We’re doing so with a display in the Museum about the tides as well as a giant inflatable Moon and some projections onto the Mill (grant allowing). This is launched to coincide with the Equinox and the Woodbridge Ambient Festival.
