There are 2 escorted walks during the day, one at 10am and one at 2pm. Both start from Woodbridge Station and finish at Melton Boatyard (Melton Station can be used to return to the start). The walks lasts approximately 2 hours and otary30 minutes.

Boat building from Anglo-Saxon times today has always been associated with the Town of Woodbridge. This guided walk of 3km visits all the main riverside attractions.

Starting from the Woodbridge Station, the walk visits the only current boatyard in the town. Walking the river path then passes Woodbridge Rowing club and The Cruising Club before reaching Whisstocks Place – the site of a major yard now housing the Woodbridge Museum and The Longshed.

From the Museum, a Volunteer will explain the maritime exhibits in the museum. Next stop is the Longshed where the Sutton Hoo Boat Company are building a reconstruction of the  Anglo Saxon Sutton Hoo Mound 1 ship that provides the best possible means of testing and understanding how the ship could have been used under a range of different conditions. A member of the Company will be available to explain what they are doing.

Our next stop is the Tide Mill, the only working tide mill in the UK. Unfortunately the Mill, at the time of HODS, will be undergoing work but a member of the The Mill will be there to talk about its operation.

The final part of the walk takes you besides the river to the village of Melton. Return can either be by train from Melton Station or by returning along the river path. Woodbridge Rotary are working with The Woodbridge Riverside Trust, The Sutton Hoo Ship’s Company, Woodbridge Tide Mill Museum and the The Woodbridge Museum to organise this walk.
