The Engineering Team met on Monday 21 July to remove and flip one of the Woodbridge Tide Mill millstones in advance of a professional cleaning the following Wednesday.
After a Health & Safety briefing and preparing the area with safety tape and warnings for the public, the team removed the tuns from the Water-driven stones and the electric stones. In such a small space this was a delicate and lengthy process, as was storing them on the floor adjacent.
Next the heavy-duty millstone crane had to be disassembled and removed to a pre prepared location near the electric stones, as these were to be the first to be turned for dressing.
In such cramped conditions it was a complex procedure to work out the best way to lift and turn the stone onto its neighbour for dressing.
Well done to the team of Rick Chapman, Steve Smith, Joe Spears and Richard Bull. More after Wednesday!
