Project Development Coordinator Vacancy

We are seeking an enthusiastic self-starter for an exciting new job that would suit an early to mid-career professional to support the development and delivery of museum projects. Our award-winning living tide-mill museum and friendly team provide an inspirational environment for gaining a wide-range of museum experience. From assisting the curator with temporary displays to supporting online learning and commercial initiatives, you will play an important role in realising our museums ambitions for the future.

You will be a self-starter with a passion for connecting people with their heritage. You will have excellent communication skills that you adapt to different types of media and audiences. An understanding of project management and curatorial practice is desirable. Our community and commercial activity sit hand in hand and are growing both on-site and online. Your digital skills and business acumen will support the further development of this hybrid approach to the delivery of our vision.

Job Description

Curatorial activity

  • Assist the Curator with collection documentation and management
  • Work alongside the Education Manager to develop content and to coordinate and deliver education and outreach activity
  • Assist the management team with the development of commercial initiatives and temporary exhibitions, including activity online and onsite.

Digital and commercial activity

  • Update the website and liaise with wider management team on drafting social media posts relating to the development of museum projects
  • Support wider marketing and communications activity drawing on an understanding of our current and target audiences
  • Assist with the management of the museums digital channels including the online shop and digital learning platforms
  • Contribute to safe and effective record keeping in line with data protection regulations including of GDPR

Fundraising and project delivery

  • Support the management team to increase income from Trusts and Foundations. Identifying Trusts and Foundations for project grants to support revenue and core funding, devise and submit applications, and report on progress as necessary
  • Assist with project development from initial proposal, through to feasibility, business case and all subsequent project stages through to delivery and implementation
  • Help ensure effective delivery of projects to both time and budget, and also meeting their objectives by following best practice identified in the Museum’s project processes and policies.
  • To support and enable the success of your projects you will work collaboratively with staff, trustees, volunteers and partner organisations.
  • Assist with the planning and implementation of fundraising events including the offer for Friends of the Tide Mill

Person specification

Essential

  • Educated to A-Level or beyond, or equivalent work experience
  • Highly organised with attention to detail and ability to juggle multiple projects
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills: The ability to draft engaging and persuasive fundraising materials and requests; the ability to make convincing presentations and informal asks
  • Enthusiasm for heritage and the arts
  • Commitment to inclusive practice, equality and diversity
  • Excellent IT skills including Powerpoint, Excel and Google Sheets, comfortable with manipulating databases, and knowledge of different social media channels
  • Flexible in approach with a positive attitude to change
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a small team with a collaborative approach to achieving organisational goals
  • Highly responsible with the ability to work with absolute discretion, tact and confidentiality with staff, trustees and volunteers as well as other key stakeholders.

Desirable

  • Experience of project management processes and milestones
  • Experience of writing successful fundraising applications or running fundraising campaigns or events
  • An understanding of museum policy and procedures including the management of collections, access and audience development
  • A knowledge of fundraising including individual giving, trusts and foundations
