Last year the Mill played a very special part for Mandy Hearle a.k.a. The Pink Lady – fund raising for a special cause, Medecins Sans Frontieres. In October she raised £141 from visitors as Mandy was ‘booked’ in as a miller for the afternoon. She emailed to update us on her total amount:

I hope you will all forgive me for not printing off an individual thank you, but thought it was daft to counter the MP tenant of not spending by spending to thank you for all that was raised!! So this IS IT!!! The very greatest note of gratitude for your part in raising an astonishing excess of £15,000 for Medecins Sans Frontieres in memory of Poppy.

If you very kindly organised a “Lot” please forward to those you inveigled! You played SUCH an important, vital  part and every single penny added to that magical sum of 365 donations and £15,000 exactly on the night of December 31st 2014.

Mission Possible was a wonderful entity, being part of and belonging to, everyone who came across, embraced, followed and supported it. I plan 2015 to be a year of continuing support for MSF…just not everyday!!! Rupert has an idea for Autumn which may well be a chance for you to make a guest appearance if you, for now though, please accept my deepest heartfelt appreciation for making this great and grand success.

    With kindest regards,

    Mandy

Here’s a selection of quotes from our visitors’ book.

“Have been very much looking forward to the visit to the Tide Mill whilst on holiday in Suffolk. It has more than met my expectations – excellent restoration. Glad the Mill didn’t suffer too much during the tidal surge earlier this year.” – Marion from Sheffield.

“Can I move in!?” – Julie from California.

“We had lots of fun looking for the mice!” – Georgia, Abbie, Finley, Evan & Anita from Ipswich.

“My son read everything and the staff were so friendly and helpful. We had a lovely visit.” – The Cook family from Ipswich.

“My son missed his school trip to the Mill but we were finally able to take him. We loved hunting for the naughty mice.” – Jay from Felixstowe.

“Gran sitio.” – Oscar from Colombia.

“We enjoyed the activities as we could be a part of history.” – Sam & Holly from Sussex.

“It’s an amazing experience and very interesting. I’m fascinated by Britain’s engineering history.” – Junji Zhu from China.

“Fascinating. Lovely gentleman explained it all to us. Beautiful view. We are happy and now learned honeymooners.” – Alice & Stephen from London.

The Tide Mill had its first visit from a school as part of the Deben Fine Arts funded project today. Melton Primary brought a class of 6 and 7-year-old children who enjoyed seeing and hearing the giant water wheel turn and spent two hours collecting aural and visual ideas for their school art project. They will also have a visit from a practising artist, art materials to use in school and be part of the 3 schools art exhibition at the Mill. Many thanks to Christine Bull for lending a hand and to Nigel for opening up the sluice gate. Kyson will be our next art visitors on Friday 13th March.
